The Waldhauser Weekend Wanderers: A Starcraft RV Pathfinder Embracing the RV Lifestyle

The Waldhauser Weekend Wanderers began RVing as a family in in 2015 with an infant, in a pop-up trailer. It became more of lifestyle for them, beginning in 2020.

Traveling has and always will be a way of life for them. When the pandemic canceled a few trips that they already had planned, they fell back to camping as one of the only options for travel and exploration. However, they didn’t enjoy camping in the pop-up, especially with two young kids. This lead to them picking up the model that they currently own within the hour, and trading in their pop-up for their Starcraft RV, the very next night without telling anyone!

Camping: The Perfect Solution for a Growing Family

Life prior to owning an RV was just in the baby stages for this little family. They had their two girls, who were beginning to handle longer road trips. They went on a few big airplane trips when the kids were really little, otherwise their adventures were weekend trips in hotels within a few hours of home. Although they loved the little vacations, only one or two was realistic a year because of how expensive family vacations can be. Not to mention, packing a weekend away for toddlers with all of the necessities and conveniences of home! Weekend hotel stays ended up being expensive, over-packed and resulted in very little restful sleep with the family in one room.

Camping Opens the Door to Other Hobbies

The Waldhauser’s always say that camping is their hobby, and they feel that to their core. Camping with the RV is what has inspired them to pick up new hobbies. They love looking for locations that allow them to easily kayak or hike right from the campground. However, the camper is also what has given them wings to adventure further from home. Leaving for a two-week trip to visit a National Park is so much more enjoyable when you have your creature-comforts hitched to the back of the truck. It also gives you the opportunity to stop and visit more than one National or State Park on the way to the main destination.

From a Short-term Goal, to a Long-term Adventure

The Waldhauser’s were looking for an easy and safe way to go on a week-long vacation with two young kids when the world was in a place of unease and fear. RVing and camping for them was nothing more than a short-term goal. One to two camping trips a year was enough to satisfy the purchase of their unit. They achieved that goal and then some! Spending every other weekend in their rig was more than they could have imagined – crossing the country in their RV, meeting new life-long friends and being able to have family join them for memory-making moments. Every year with their RV is a reminder of how blessed they are to experience the #rvlifestyle.

It's All About the Planning

For some, part of the fun with camping is the planning! Researching what you hope to do just builds the anticipation even more. Not making reservations or a plan can lead to staying out much later than you’d expect or hope, and it can lead to staying in a stressful spot that doesn’t have the comforts you’re used to. The Waldhauser’s do their planning a year ahead of time, in their off season. They strive to have calendars locked in by February since campgrounds can quickly fill up. This allows you to easily block off weekends well in advance.

Chasing the Northern Lights

Recently, the Waldauser family spontaneously took a trip to chase the Northern Lights. Aside from the beauty of the adventure, the support their friends and family gave them - the encouragement and joy - was just as rewarding. They barely had a reservation at a campground and decided to pick up and go! They packed the camper and threw in some food, picked the girls up from school early with the rig attached, and left! They actually had teachers, school support staff, friends and family all tell them how impressed they were with their ability to pick up and go at the drop of a hat, and even more impressed that they were creating such a core memory for their girls. People had tears in their eyes talking about how amazing it was that they made things like that a priority for their family.
